Digitising your restaurant menu: the 5 most common mistakes

Teix Web Studio · July 8, 2026 · 4 min read

Digitising the menu has become almost mandatory, but doing it badly is very easy. These are the five mistakes we see most often in Mallorca venues — and what to do instead.

1. Uploading the menu as a heavy PDF

The most common mistake by far. The customer opens it on their phone, it takes ages to load, they have to zoom and drag to read every dish… and half of them give up. A real digital menu is a page designed for mobile, with clear sections and prices readable without zooming.

2. Letting it go stale

The whole point of digital is changing prices and dishes instantly. If the online menu says one thing and the waiter another, the customer loses trust — worse than having no digital menu at all. The fix: updating it must take seconds, not a call to the "IT guy".

3. Forgetting languages

In Mallorca a good share of your customers don't read Spanish. A menu that detects the phone's language and shows English or German automatically sells more — especially the high-margin dishes a tourist won't order without understanding what they are.

4. Awkward access

If seeing the menu requires typing a URL or scanning a crumpled QR, you're starting with friction. Today's comfortable standard is tapping the phone on an NFC chip — no apps, no camera — with a backup QR printed for older phones.

5. Measuring nothing

How many people open your menu each day? At what times? From which table? Without that data you're deciding blind.

💡 TapMallorca solves all five: a fast, multilingual menu, updatable from your phone in seconds, NFC chips on the table and real usage statistics.
